BECTU member wins sound Oscar

BECTU has sent congratulations to Richard Pryke, sound recordist, who has won an Oscar for his work on Slumdog Millionaire.

Richard, who travelled to Los Angeles for the ceremony with his wife Natalie, has had a fantastic season.

Just two weeks ago Richard celebrated with other members of the film’s sound team a BAFTA award in the same category; this was soon followed by recognition from America’s Cinema Audio Society.

Richard is a member of the union’s Pinewood Studios Branch.

“This is a great achievement for Richard. Recognition by his peers, and at the highest level, for a specialist craft is simply fantastic. We are very proud to have Richard as a BECTU member” commented BECTU’s Assistant General Secretary Martin Spence.

Pinewood Studios, now joined with Shepperton, received the award for Outstanding British Contribution to Cinema at this year’s BAFTA ceremony.
