An evening with Mike Newell
BECTU members are invited to an evening with film director Mike Newell on 5 December at the University of Hertfordshire.
A masterclass and Q&A will follow a full screening of one of his classic films Donnie Brasco.
Mike Newell, who will be literally stepping off the plane from the US where he has been promoting his latest release Love in the time of Cholera, explains how he went from St Albans to Hollywood in a few easy steps.
Directing such films as Four Weddings and a Funeral, Pushing Tin, Mona Lisa Smile and then taking the helm of the fourth instalment of Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, Mike talks of how he is drawn to the “human factor” of filmmaking.
Charting his career to date, the audience will get an insight into what working with such Hollywood greats as Johnny Depp, Al Pacino, Julia Roberts, Angelina Jolie and, not to mention, all those at Hogwarts, is really like!
The event has been organised by FDMX, and Project Co-ordinator Sarah Burlison said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for us to provide that vital link between learning and industry practice.
“With such events FDMX is able to create professional experiences for the audience and build awareness that there is a wealth of filmmaking talent coming out of our region.”
