Arts Centre staff launch petition

Staff at the Midlands Arts Centre (mac) in Birmingham are appealing for support for their petition to retain their jobs.

Staff at the venue face redundancy next month when the centre closes for a £13.6 million refurbishment.

Despite lengthy talks and similar agreements in other venues, BECTU has yet to persuade mac management to agree to give displaced staff the offer of their jobs back when the arts centre reopens in 2009.

“Our members hope to put pressure on their employer to do the right thing. Our campaign has already attracted local press attention and we are lobbying the council to use their positive influence.” said Lynne Korniak, national official.

To show your support for BECTU members at the mac please sign their petition which can be found at http://petition.co.uk/save_mac_staff_jobs
