Directors do have a collective voice
A press report has suggested that UK freelance directors have no collective voice and that a "new" organisation intends to fill the gap.
BECTU Assistant General Secretary, Martin Spence, has gone on the record to set things straight: “Directors do have a collective voice. In fact they have two organisations with a long record of co-operation: BECTU, and the directors collecting society, formerly called DPRS, which is now being re-launched as Directors UK (D-UK).
“BECTU is advising and representing directors all the time - working directors at the sharp end on factual/reality programmes, soaps, and so on.
“The problem facing directors in the UK is not that they lack a voice. The problem is that even when they have a voice, UK law all too often allows employers to ignore it. Hence the importance of the ongoing alliance between BECTU and D-UK.”
