More than 340 people working in factuals responded to our January 2013 survey into working conditions in the sector.
They spoke loudly and clearly: excessive hours, too little rest time and employers' cavalier attitude to health and safety were constant themes. These, and more, are the issues which employers need to address, say the respondents. Find out more behind the News tab here www.bectu.org.uk/no-to-tv-abuse
A stain on the industry?
But whilst the survey has helped to voice the concerns of staff and freelances, it's also apparent that large sections of the workforce, which is mostly freelance, are afraid to speak out, whether to raise concerns with their employer or to associate themselves publically with the campaign.
Surely it's a stain on the industry - which is about communication, cultural expression and in many instances, the righting of wrongs - that its own workforce should be afraid to raise genuine concerns with their employers for fear of being blacklisted? We hope we can help to turn this situation around. To contact organisers of the campaign write to [email protected]
