In celebration of BECTU members working on Bodyguard, we’re profiling three people involved in the production of this high-profile show.
Today (Saturday 13 October) hair and make-up designer My Alehammar talks about her experience, as well as the importance to the industry of BECTU’s campaign against excess hours, Eyes Half Shut. You can sign the petition to end long hours here.

"The cast and crew on Bodyguard were some of the best I’ve ever worked with. My stand out memory of Bodyguard will always be the outstanding team work from all departments. This starts from the top. If you have strong producers, line producers etc who really cares about their crew, you will have a great time!
"My team’s main challenge was episode six...the blood and bruise continuity needed was insane. Our trailer looked like a shrine to Richard [Madden] on our last block because we had pictures all over the trailer with all the different days bruising and blood etc! It was fun but very challenging.
"I'm extremely proud of my team for the hard work of getting it all so right every day. It wasn’t easy but it totally paid off.
"The make-up department is always the first in and the last to leave so BECTU’s Eyes Half Shut campaign is extremely important to us. I think continuous days is the key to a healthy shoot. On a 12h shooting day my team would do a minimum of 14h and god knows how long we will drive there and back! This is standard in our industry so nothing to do with the production. I know that most companies are more than happy to pay for this as the show needs to be made, but sometimes that isn't the issue. The issue is more our health. We need to sleep and we need to see family and friends. Our down time is as important as our work. And let’s face it we all love our jobs or we wouldn’t work these hours.
"I will fight hard on any production to make sure my team will be put up in hotels if I think we are travelling too far and our turnaround becomes too short. We are then working 12 hour days instead of 14 hour and we all feel so much better."
