TMA pay claim 2001

BECTU's pay claim for theatres outside of London includes £5 per hour minimum pay.

The claim to the TMA (Theatrical Management Association) covers thousands of staff in theatres outside of London. The claim for £5 per hour minimum for low paid staff is aimed to put a floor under pay for the whole sector.

The claim also incudes a call for all current pay differential to be maintained and performance pay to be based on the higher grade 4 pay rate.

The union wants significant increases in touring and absence-from-base rates, along with all other pay rates, to match inflation plus the exclusions to long-running show bonuses. Following the introduction of stakeholder pensions the union calls for employers to contribute five per cent of basic pay to pensions.

A key demand is for the reduction in the qualifying period to achieve regularly employed status to 18 out of 26 weeks and 36 out of 52 weeks.

The union also wants a retainer for theatre dark weeks and pay for appearances in costume under direction, along with a new benchmark for improved redundancy pay.

Finally the union is seeking a review of disciplinary and grievances procedures to bring them into line with ACAS codes of practices.
