Deal agreed at Haymarket

A new pay offer has headed off more strikes at the Leicester theatre.

BECTU members at the Haymarket have voted to accept an improved offer which doubles an earlier rise rejected in a postal ballot.

The settlement came as the theatre management faced the threat of continuing strikes, following three well-supported stoppages which began on October 9.

Union officials praised the discipline and determination of members at the Haymarket, welcoming the new offer, worth 4% on some hourly rates, as a breakthrough in the campaign to eliminate low pay in UK theatres.
