Millenium recognition

BECTU has been recognised as the union to represent those working at the Cardiff Millenium Centre.

Management at the Wales Millenium Centre in Cardiff have confirmed that they have have accepted BECTU's application for recognition for the purposes of collective bargaining for employees in the Stage, Technical and Stage Door areas.

This bargaining unit includes all permanent employees and all casual workers who are employed on a regular basis and recognition was confirmed after a test of membership levels by ACAS determined that there was sufficient levels of membership for the request to procede.

The success follows a campaign organised by local representatives and BECTU National Official Anna Murray.

This is the first stage in the process which will now be followed shortly by discussions relating to the written recognition agreement document.

Commenting on the successful campaign, BECTU Supervisory Official Willy Donaghy congratulated all the local and national representatives involved: "This success confirms BECTU's position as the recognised trade union for all workers in the theatre and entertainment industry.

"We look forward to establishing a mutually beneficial relationship with the management of the Wales Millenium Centre and also to developing best practice in the workplace within the collective agreement to be negotiated."
