WNO pay offer rejected

A 2.6% pay offer at the Welsh National Opera and Cardiff Theatrical Services has been rejected by BECTU members.

In a consultative ballot the offer has been unanimously rejected and referred to the formal disputes procedure by the union.

Cardiff Technical Services is the scenic construction company ran by the Welsh National Opera.

BECTU Supervisory Official Willy Donaghy said: "The unanimous rejection of a pay offer which is considerably below the rate of inflation indicates the strength of feeling among the union membership.

"The company have stated that the 2.6% increase offered was in line with their funding increase, but this is not the only source of the company's income and members have shown that will not replace this subsidy by accepting a pay cut in real terms."
