Second day suspended

The second strike day at Scotland's Cumbernauld Theatre has been suspended after almost nine hours of talks at ACAS.

“I remain concerned that too much pressure is being put on too few staff”

The ACAS talks yesterday, held to discuss a dispute on planned job and pay cuts at the theatre, have resulted in a proposal which the union is taking back to members for consideration.

BECTU negotiators believe that significant progress has been made towards a resolution of the dispute but do not believe the proposals go far enough to warrant a 'recommendation' for the package when members vote.

BECTU Scottish Organiser, Paul McManus commented: "Naturally we are pleased we have secured improvements to management's proposals in a number of areas, but even if staff agree to these I remain concerned that too much pressure is being put on too few staff to allow the theatre to survive in the longer term."

A special shop meeting at the theatre is being arranged for next week to allow staff to discuss the improved proposals.
