BBC freelances win Talk increase

The BBC has agreed to a 4% increase in radio freelance Talk rates following discussions.

While the increase is welcome, BECTU is continuing to oppose the BBC's attempts to acquire all rights when engaging Talks contributions.

There has, however, been a positive response from the BBC on the repeat rate. They have accepted that where the rate has historically been paid, and it is envisaged that the contribution will be repeated, an extra 75% will be paid in addition to the basic fee.

This increase in Talk rates has been backdated to 1 September, and BECTU official Jim Carroll urges members to amend their original invoices if they have sent them in without incorporating the increase.

To obtain the updated BBC rates list and the minimum agreed ratecard with independent production companies, members should contact Jim Carroll at BECTU Head Office.
