BBC funding submission

BECTU's submission to the panel reviewing the BBC licence fee supports its continuation as the main means of funding the Corporation.

In the submission to the Government appointed Review Panel, chaired by economist Gavyn Davies, the union makes the following points:

  • Ensure BBC income matches broadcasting inflation by licence fee increases above the Retail Price Index (RPI)

  • End the internal market in the BBC

  • Slow down the levels of efficiency savings as it is proving to be damaging

  • Commercial interests of the BBC to be secondary to supporting it's programme makers

  • BBC to remain self-regulatory
The submission was drafted following consultation amongst the union's various Divisions.
