BBC appraisal reminder
BBC members are reminded of the appraisal boycott to oppose performance related pay.
The following covers all members in the BBC, except those in departments covered by Resources Ltd and Worldwide Ltd.
In the six months since the boycott began it has caused the BBC difficulties.
As the appraisal season approaches once more, members are reminded that the union is currently engaged in a boycott of appraisals because BECTU is opposed to Performance Related Pay in the BBC.
In some areas managers have been approaching staff to discuss training needs. The union advice is that it is perfectly acceptable to have a conversation (or to request a conversation) with line managers in relation to training and career development.
If, however, managers attempt to refer to performance in the last twelve months, or to set objectives or targets for the next 12 months, members should politely:
- Decline to talk about these subjects and point out that they are taking part in the appraisal boycott.
- Say that such a conversation could take place when the boycott comes to an end.
- Remind managers that the solution to the problem lies in the hands of the BBC and their attitude to performance related pay.
