Radio AP role introduced

Members in BBC Radio have accepted revised proposals on changes to job descriptions by a slim majority.

54% of those responding in a ballot have voted to accept the introduction of a new Assistant Producer role.

Staff who move into the new job are expected to perform duties currently carried out by three separate job categories - Studio Managers, Researchers, and on-line authors.

It is BECTU's view that the close vote in the ballot shows that members are still concerned about how the new role will work.

Before revised proposals had been tabled the union had been poised to take strike action, and dates had been picked, when negotiators were called back to talks on the introduction of the new Assistant Producer role.
