BECTU members voted overwhelmingly to accept the pay offer with a majority of 93%.

Members in the NUJ, and the Amicus section of Unite, also voted in favour.

The increase, improved after unions threatened strike action, consists of 4% payable from August this year, and a further 2% in 2008.

Increases in pension contributions equal to 1.5% of salary, which were due to take effect in September this year, have now been postponed to 2008.

BECTU Assistant General Secretary Luke Crawley commented: "I would like to emphasize that in the second year, if the RPI figure for April 2008, published in May 2008, is above 2%, we have the option to table a fresh pay claim to the BBC".

Meanwhile in Corporation subsidiary BBC Resources, not covered by the ballot, pay negotiations are continuing.

Resources members have been offered a package that matches the main BBC offer, however further discussions are taking place over the link between the second year pay increase and the prevailing RPI in 2008.
