BECTU wins FAA jobs
BECTU intervention on a London East End production has resulted in the employment of FAA members for the remainder of the film.
In May BECTU FAA members drew the union's attention to the production which had begun filming, but was employing 200 members of the public as background artists at well below union rates.
The union's FAA (Film Artistes' Association) Sub-Division represents members working as background artists, walk-ons and doubles in film and television.
BECTU official Spencer MacDonald contacted the production company and raised the matter. The company accepted that they had breached the FAA-PACT agreement and promised that for the reminder of the production they would hire FAA members through recognised agents at the proper rates.
Spencer MacDonald commented: "This proves how effective BECTU is when we receive the information from vigilant members".
