Safety savings for freelances

BECTU is offering members Health & Safety NVQ courses at cut-price rates.

In a deal with Lionsgate, a training provider approved by Skillset the training watchdog, members of the union can attend two-day courses for only £100.

Similar courses cost up to £250 if subsidised by Skillset, and as much as £500 in the commercial market.

Pressure for freelance members to demonstrate competence in health and safety has built up over recent years, as industry employers have realised that they have a legal duty to ensure that anyone they hire is trained to work safely.

Although the formal National Vocational Qualification in health & safety is not obligatory, it provides compelling evidence that freelances are safe to employ.

The next two union-sponsored courses will be run at BECTU's London head office on 21/22 May, and 25/26 June. Interested members should contact Lionsgate on 020 8334 1171.
