Soho Images faces pay action

BECTU members at West End lab Soho Images have voted for industrial action.

In a ballot announced on August 1, 89% of members voted in favour of action short of a strike, in support of their demand to receive a pay increase.

The company refused to make a pay offer this year, missed the traditional April anniversary date, and now faces the prospect of an official overtime ban.

Soho Images, a specialist laboratory, is owned by US-based Liberty Livewire, which also owns a string of post-production houses including Rushes, West One, 4MC, SVC, Soho 601, XTV, and Computamatch.

Any decision by officials to impose industrial sanctions would, under current UK labour laws, require the union to give Soho Images seven days advance notice. The earliest date on which action could begin is Monday August 12.
