Tax fight ahead

The UK Inland Revenue has outlined potentially damaging changes in expenses rules due to take effect in April.

The Inland Revenue, at its annual meeting with representatives of the film and independent production sector, including BECTU, outlined proposals that travel and other subsistence expenses such as accommodation and meals for PAYE workers (especially freelances) when working away from base (e.g. on location) may, in many cases, become taxable.

Many industry bodies, representing both employers and unions, are very concerned and will be lobbying on this issue.
