Sound events 1999

The union, in conjunction with Sony, is planning a series of events to help keep members in touch with developments in sound technology.

Plans currently envisage three events this year:

  • Radio
  • Dubbing
  • Live sound mixing and wireless microphones
The first event on Radio takes place on 27 May, and will include a discussion about copyright and contracts, chaired by John Sealey. John is Chair of BECTU's Producers and Directors Branch as well as the Alliance for the Protection of Copyright. Geoffrey Adams, the union's copyright consultant, will also be present.

The new Code of Conduct on protection against copyright theft came into force on 1 April and currently applies to television. Radio members attending will be invited to put forward their views and experience on submission of ideas.

Also included will be a demonstration of Sony's BMS PC-based system for radio production that allows editing of audio sources from a graphical interface.

There will also be a look at qualifications for radio skills and how they can be obtained.

The first event will start at 1100 on 27 May 1999 at Freedom House, Stanhope House, Stanhope Place, London W2 2HH.

BECTU members interested in participating in these events should contact Jim Carroll at BECTU Head Office.
