NEC vacancy filled
The vacancy on the BECTU NEC has been filled in a by-election by Anne Buckland from Scottish Television.
At the closing date of 17 September, there was only one nomination made by branches in the Independent Broadcasting division to fill the vacancy on the NEC caused by the retirement of Jim McGirr from Ulster Television.
Scottish Television's Anne Buckland was therefore elected unopposed for the remainder of the 1998-2000 term of office. The General Secretary formally notified branches of the independent scrutineer's report in Branch Circular 559.
Anne's election brings the number of women NEC members to four out of 18, but at 22% the proportion is still well short of BECTU's overall 35% women members.
