BECTU not in Mayor selection

BECTU will not be taking part in the ballot for the selection of the Labour Party candidate for London's Mayor.

BECTU is affiliated to the national Labour Party and to the Scottish Labour Party, but does not affiliate to the regional Labour parties, including the London Labour Party.

The decision of the Labour Party's National Executive Committee in determining the Electoral College is that:

  1. Individual members of the London Labour Party who were eligible to participate on 24 September 1999 and who are paid up at the of the issue of ballot papers.
  2. Organisations affiliated to the London Labour Party as at 31.12.1998.
  3. London Labour MPs, MEPs and GLA divisional candidates.
The consequence of this is that BECTU will not be partaking in the ballot for the selection of the Labour Party candidate for Mayor of London.
