Roadshow for London members

BECTU's roadshow on new workers' rights reaches London on 23 March.

The show, organised jointly with union solicitors Thompsons, explains the new rights given to UK workers by last year's Employment Relations Act.

These include an entitlement to be accompanied by a union official at disciplinary and grievance hearings, even if no union is recognised, and limits the use of so-called "waiver clauses" in short term contracts.

During January and February, the roadshow visited Glasgow, Manchester, Cardiff and Bristol, aiming predominantly at freelance and theatre members who are most affected by casual and short term contracts.

The London event is open to all members, including broadcasting and cinema staff, many of whom have new "family friendly" rights to maternity leave or parental leave.
