Industry census aims for a record

A media industry employment census scheduled for May 19 has issued almost 20,000 questionnaires.

If a majority of the questionniares are returned, the census will become the biggest-ever attempt to measure employment levels and skills in the UK media industry.

Sponsored by Skillset, the industry lead training body, and the Government Department of Culture Media and Sport, the census aims to identify changes in the industry so that training investment can be carefully targeted.

Television, Radio, Video, Film and New Media are all covered by the survey, and companies across the whole of the UK are hoped to participate. The census forms are designed to be filled in by employers, giving details of the staff they are employing or hiring on Friday May 19th.

Forms have already been distributed through trade press and employers' associations, and can be downloaded from the Skillset website. Download now

Initial results of the census are expected within six weeks, with a comprehensive breakdown of the figures to be released at the end of August, to coincide with the Edinburgh International Television Festival.
