Training and careers site launch

BECTU and Skillset's skillsformedia training and careers website has gone live.

The skillsformedia website is the latest joint initiative by BECTU and industry training organisation Skillset.

Designed around real life case histories the site provides career and training information to anybody wanting to get on or get into film, television, radio, corporate video and interactive media.

Skillset's Gary Townshend said "This is a timely new addition to the growing portfolio of careers advice and guidance services available to our industry.

"As the site grows and develops, and as we make further alliances with other industry organisations, this invaluable portal will very quickly achieve its aim of becoming the definitive media careers advice resource in the UK."

Skillsformedia has received a big boost from the newly created Department for Education and Skills with a grant of £260,000 to extend the organisations service beyond London to support the industry in the English regions.

The money will also go towards the further development of the skillsformedia website and pay for a feasibility study for a drop-in advice and resources centre.

In another development skillsformedia has launched a new Express service.

These 45 minute one-to-one advice sessions are ideal for entrants as Ilka Walkley, skillsformedia manager explains "Our professional media advisors can give new entrants vital orientation at the very start of their careers".

And the scheme contains a powerful incentive for newly graduated hopefuls to join BECTU. Graduate membership brings with it a fifty per cent discount with advice sessions available to BECTU members for £15.
