2002 Learning Reps course

A Learning Representative course is being run for London-based BECTU members.

The course is to train up to 15 members to be Learning Representatives who can give advice and guidance on learning opportunities to their colleagues.

The course takes place 22 February, 1, 8, 15 and 22 March 2002 (all Fridays) 0930 to 1630.

TOSCA Project

The BECTU TOSCA (Training Opportunities for Skills, Confidence and Achievement) Project has arranged with the College of North East London's TUC Education department to run the course.

To date this training has been restricted to Theatre members but on this occasion, as there are likely to be a few spare places available, members of following BECTU Divisions working within the Greater London area can participate:

  • Arts and Entertainment
  • Independent Broadcasting
  • BBC
  • Laboratories
so that they too can take on the role of Learning Representative in their workplace.

The TOSCA Project has been instigated to form a network of trained Union Learning Representatives and work in partnership with employers.

Prospective participants

Prospective participants should ensure that they are able to take paid time off to attend on all five days of the course (BECTU will be happy to assist in negotiating this with their employers and providing background details on the Project if required).

Course fees will be paid for by the Project together with the standard lunch allowance and any fares in excess of travel to their normal workplace.

Training will take place in the Asquith Room at BECTU Head Office on Fridays 22 February, 1, 15 and 22 March. Due to non-availability of the room on Friday 8 March the union is seeking another location within Central London which will be advised as soon as known.

Those interested in becoming a workplace Learning Representative should contact the BECTU Training Officer Trish Lavelle [email protected] at BECTU Head Office.
