New film actors agreement

Equity and PACT have announced a new agreement covering actors in cinema films.

The new two year agreement follows Equity members refusing to accept new contracts for UK films from 1 December 2001.

The new agreement in principle between UK actors' union Equity and producers organisation PACT includes:

  • Actors will for the first time receive either a share of the profits of a film or a share of the proceeds from sales of films to television and for video and DVD sales and rentals.
  • Minimum pay rates for actors will rise and they will for the first time receive holiday pay and pensions.
The action by Equity members has affected film production in the UK following the termination of the previous agreement last December.

Both Equity and PACT now anticipate an early resumption of major film production in the UK.
