Conference encourages women reps

Women's issues have risen on BECTU's agenda

Women's issues have risen up BECTU's bargaining agenda

Organisers hope that a conference this weekend will encourage more women to take active roles within BECTU.

The event, which runs all day on Saturday November 12, is exclusively for women members, and will outline how union representatives fit into BECTU, and the basics of bargaining.

Members who attend will have an opportunity to come together and, through training and shared experience, begin to shape their own agenda.

Guest speaker Tamsin Larby, Director VDay UK - Until the Violence Stops - will underline the need for unions to adopt policies on domestic violence, and a confence workshop, designed with the TUC, will discuss the shape of a policy for BECTU.

There will be an opportunity to learn basic self defence in an hour long workshop showing you how to protect yourself, and a chance to put questions to an expert.

The conference takes place from 9:30am - 4:00pm on Saturday November 12 at the Voluntary Resource Centre, 356 Holloway Road, London. N7 (nearest tube Holloway Road).

It is an opportunity for all women members to get involved so if you would like to attend or want more information please email [email protected] or call Kate Elliott on 020 7346 0908.
