AGS nomination call
An election is to be held to fill the vacant BECTU Assistant General Secretary post.
The call for nominations to fill the vacancy follows the election of Gerry Morrissey to General Secretary.

Morrissey was formerly Assistant General Secretary (AGS) covering the Arts & Entertainment, BBC and Independent Broadcasting Divisions.
Nominations are now being sought from Branches in these Divisions.
Candidates can be members or employees of the union, and each requires:
- Nomination by at least ten Branches, or
- Nomination by Branches with a combined membership of at least 1,000
Branches have to convene meetings of members to agree a nomination, but if the meeting is, or will inevitably be, inquorate, the Branch Committee can act in the name of the Branch.
Nominations must be made on the form distributed to Branch Secretaries with Branch Circular 730/2007.
If the election is contested, there will be a postal ballot of members in the Arts & Entertainment, BBC and Independent Broadcasting Divisions, closing on 8 June 2007.
The election to fill the vacancy was agreed at the 18 February 2007 meeting of the union's NEC (National Executive Committee).
The independent scrutineer for the election is Electoral Reform Services, The Election Centre, 33 Clarendon Road, London N8 0NW.
