Child poverty rally support

BECTU is supporting the Campaign to End Child Poverty Rally to be held in London on 7 November.

“The UK has 3.8 million children living in poverty”

The rally is being held in protest at UK child poverty figures, which last year rose for the first time since 1997, despite a Government commitment to end child poverty by 2020.

The UK has one of the worst rates in Europe, with 3.8 million children living in poverty.

Save the Children, organisers of the rally, have said "We need your help to show Gordon Brown and Alistair Darling that we want to see an end to this national disgrace.

"Please come to the rally and bring family and friends to show support for the Campaign to End Child Poverty".

The rally is on Wednesday 7 November 2007, starting at The Treasury Whitehall Court in London SW1 [1 November 2007 update].

Schedule for the day:

  • 1015 - Briefing on plans for day
  • 1025 - Walk down to Treasury (onto and down Whitehall)
  • 1035 - March into King Charles Street for main part of rally
  • 1100 - Mass popping of Balloons

It is being held as part of the Month of Action for the Campaign to End Child Poverty.
