ITN Working Time agreement

ITN members have voted by a 85% majority to accept a new agreement on the Working Time Regulations following negotiations with the company.

The agreement provides compensatory rest on a like-for-like basis. For example, if someone works an extra two hours in a eight week period they would be scheduled two hours less work in the following period.

BECTU Supervisory Official Sharon Elliott said: "We feel this is a good agreement, though we know that the main concern of those voting to reject it was the reference period, which they wanted to be shorter than the agreement states.

"Management has agreed that the operation of the agreement will be monitored; the first review is due in May. We would welcome feedback from everyone [at ITN] on how the agreement is working - only with such feedback can we work to ensure the protection provided is delivered"

ITN (Independent Television News) provides news services in the UK to ITV, Channel 4 and Channel 5.
