24 hour strike at Scottish and Grampian

A one-day strike has been called on 29 March at Scottish and Grampian TV.

The stoppage, which could be the first in a series of strikes at the ITV stations, has been called in protest at redundancies and cuts in pay for members of BECTU and the NUJ.

Negotiations between the unions and Scottish Media Group, which owns both companies, reached an impasse last month. In a subsequent strike ballot 68% of BECTU members at Scottish Television voted in favour of action, while Aberdeen-based union members at Grampian TV backed industrial action by a majority of 81%.

Formal notice of the stoppage was given to SMG on 20 March, and the unions were waiting to see whether the strike threat would bring the company back to the negotiating table.
