BECTU wins BACC recognition

ITV have confirmed BECTU recognition for the Broadcast Advertising Clearance Centre (BACC).

As part of regulatory requirements imposed on broadcasters the BACC ensures that advertising submitted to it complies with the Ofcom code.

BECTU were first approached by BACC staff in April 2005 and almost half of the workforce are now members of the union.

ITV indicated recognition following ACAS confirmation of union membership levels. The recognition process will be completed once a formal agreement has been signed off in the near future.

The BACC is based at Bloomsbury and is currently part of ITV, employing over 40 staff.

Talks have been underway for some time about the long-term future of the BACC with ITV appearing to favour setting it up as a stand alone company.

BECTU National Official Nigel Mason commented: "I am delighted that recognition has now been achieved at the BACC, this result is a tribute to the hard work put in by the local BECTU reps.

"Whatever the future holds for the BACC, we are convinced that the staff will be best served having a recognised trade union representing their interests".
