Johnson Controls alters pay deal

Johnson Controls tell staff the full 4% pay increase agreed last month only applies to employees with more than 12 months' service.

In October, and after several months of negotiations, BECTU members employed by Johnson Controls voted to accept a 4% pay increase to be applied to basic pay and related allowances, backdated to 1 July 2007. The increase is expected to be reflected in November’s wages.

However, the union has recently been made aware of the fact that management have issued a communication stating that only employees with more than 12 months’ service will receive the full increase. This was not tabled by Johnson Controls during the pay negotiations and at no time has this been agreed by BECTU.

The union has told management that the 4% pay increase as agreed, should be applied to the salaries of all employees working on the BBC contract, irrespective of length of service; in addition, the union’s position is that immediate measures should be taken to rectify this issue, which will further be tabled by BECTU at the next JC Director’s meeting to be held week beginning 19 November 2007.
