BECTU backs Unite Against Facism
BECTU is lending its support to the Unite Against Facism demonstration in Central London on Saturday 21 June 2008.
The event, billed as a national demonstration and carnival parade, will show that “anti-facists are in the majority in the UK” say the event organisers.
The election of a BNP representative to the Greater London Assembly last month further underlines the need for organisations, like BECTU, which celebrate cultural diversity, to come together to press their opposition to the BNP’s racist policies.
BECTU General Secretary Gerry Morrissey said: “BECTU is proud to lend its support to the rally. The BECTU banner will be there and we hope that many BECTU members will turn out to take part in this celebration of everything that is positive about the multi-cultural UK.”
Unite Against Facism and Love Music Hate Racism have joined together to organise the event which promises floats, marching bands, speakers and banners from many groups who support the UK’s free and multi-cultural society.
The demonstration assembles at 1200, Saturday 21 June 2008, at Tooley Street London SE1, behind GLA City Hall, near Tower Bridge. It will then march to Trafalgar Square.
