Red Bee branch says “no” to a strike

Union members at Red Bee have stopped short of delivering a mandate for strike action in pursuit of a better pay offer for 2008/09.

The result of the ballot, declared earlier this week, recorded that a majority of 57% of those voting had voted against strike action. However, in contrast, 70% of members said they would back action short of strike to press their case.

In dispute is management’s offer to increase pay by just 2.5% and the company’s proposals for changes to the bargaining unit. This week it was confirmed that retail price inflation is running at 5%.

Union officials are due to meet Red Bee management to consider the current situation before BECTU makes a firm decision on future action.

Earlier this month Red Bee took over responsibility for the playout of Channel 4’s output. More than 100 staff were transferred to Red Bee’s employment in an agreement reached with BECTU.
