ATG staff vote to fight redundancies
Ambassadors Theatre Group staff in Glasgow have voted to fight planned redundancies and a plan to migrate their work to London.
Management’s announcement this week of its bid to cut 27 jobs in its Glasgow Theatres telesales box office have met with anger and a commitment from staff to support a ballot for industrial action if compulsory redundancies are imposed.
“ … these proposals have created an enormous amount of anger amongst staff in Glasgow who believe they have worked hard to make the Glasgow Theatres a success for ATG.”
Staff believe that the two flagship Glasgow Theatres are financially very lucrative to ATG and that their operations heavily subsidise less successful ATG theatres in England.
They believe that the proposed move is an attempt to increase that "subsidy" by making Glasgow staff redundant and giving the work to much lower paid staff down south.
Paul McManus, BECTU's Scottish Officer, explained " We have been served formal notice of proposed redundancies and while we will not discuss these negotiations publicly it is fair to say that these proposals have created an enormous amount of anger amongst staff in Glasgow who believe they have worked hard to make the Glasgow Theatres a success for ATG."
