Conference Document 3 released

Branch secretaries are being sent key annual conference documentation this week together with Conference Document 3.

Branch Committees need to consider the paperwork as part of their preparation for Annual Conference in April.

“Branches are required to indicate which paragraphs of the report they wish to speak to, and which amendments to propositions they would like to submit, by a deadline of noon on Wednesday 4 March”

Conference Document 3 [75k pdf] accompanies the NEC’s draft report to Conference [350k pdf].

In line with the new Conference format, successfully launched last year, Branches are being asked to consider the report and to indicate in advance which paragraphs they wish to speak to.

This approach allows for better use of Conference time and the introduction of a number of conference workshops.

In addition, Branches are being provided with motions to conference accepted and rejected by the Standing Orders Committee (SOC); branches have the right to submit amendments to accepted motions to the SOC.

4 March deadline

Branches are required to indicate which paragraphs of the report they wish to speak to, and which amendments to propositions they would like to submit, by a deadline of noon on Wednesday 4 March 2009. The relevant forms should be returned to David Cormack at BECTU Head Office.

BECTU’s Annual Conference is the single event during the year when large numbers of representatives, from all sections of the union, come together to discuss the union’s work and to plan ahead.

This year’s Conference will be held at the De Vere Royal Bath Hotel in Bournemouth on Saturday 25 April 2009; where Divisional Conferences are scheduled, these will take place on the day before at the same venue.
