Maggie’s End comes to London
Maggie’s End, a play which examines Margaret Thatcher’s legacy from the perspective of the industrial North, is coming to London.
Performances at the Shaw Theatreon Euston Road London from 7-18 April 2009 will mark the 25th anniversary of the Miners’ Strike.
Written by Ed Waugh and Trevor Wood, the play was first performed in 2007 to coincide with annual Durham Miners’ Gala.
Commenting on the piece, Trevor Wood has said: “Despite Mrs Thatcher's death being the catalyst for the play, Maggie's End is really about the legacy of Thatcherism and examines how far the New Labour government has travelled from its traditional roots.”
The inspiration to write the play came from speculation about the Government’s plans to stage a state funeral when Baroness Thatcher dies.
The production is sponsored by the NUM, GMB, Unite, Unison and the RMT.
BECTU members or Branches who would like copies of leaflets or posters for local distribution should email Davey Hopper, secretary of the North East area NUM, or call 07775 630398.
