Amendments to policy propositions 2003

Two amendments have been submitted by Branches in response to the policy propositions - one of the amendments has been rejected by the Standing Orders Committee.

AP26 Working time

That this annual conference instructs the National Executive Committee to commission research on the ways employers seek to avoid their obligations to provide paid holidays from day one of employment and to monitor the methods used in 2003 to circumvent the 48 hour week.

Delete "commission" and insert "undertake"

West Midlands Freelance

The Standing Orders Committee has accepted this amendment for inclusion in the agenda.

AP20 Northern Ireland

That this annual conference instructs the National Executive Committee to give equal access to services from the union at national level by setting up an office in Northern Ireland, as soon as funds allow it.

Belfast General
Amendment

Delete the words "as soon as funds allow it" and replace with the following: "and to reallocate national officers' duties so that all members in Northern Ireland can be represented by a National Officer based in Northern Ireland and also that all members in Wales can be represented by a National Officer based in Wales."

BBC Cardiff

SOC has rejected this amendment, on the grounds that it contains substantial new matter that could have been the subject of a separate proposition.
