Hair & Make-up Working Time advice

BECTU has issued detailed Working Time Regulation advice for freelance Hair & Make-Up Artists.

Despite the advent of the Working Time Regulations, with their provision for statutory minimum rest breaks, many film and TV productions utilising freelance personnel continue to schedule long shooting days.

Sometimes they take on board the need for the camera crew to get their minimum 11-hour break - but they conveniently forget the "prep & wrap" departments such as Hair & Make-Up, Costume & Wardrobe, and the ADs, PAs and Runners in the Production department itself.

BECTU is therefore issuing new detailed advice to freelance Hair & Make-Up Artists, spelling out their rights to rest breaks and giving clear guidance on what to do if rest breaks are breached or denied.

It is hoped that similar advice for the other "prep and wrap" departments will follow shortly.
