Advert travel time advice
Commercials freelances are advised to limit working time in a travel time dispute.
Freelance BECTU members who work on commercials are advised not to work more than 4.5 hours overtime, or past midnight, without getting an up-front guarantee from the employer that all travel time will be paid at the appropriate overtime rate.
This is in response to the long-running travel time dispute with the Advertising Producers Association (APA).
The dispute concerns payment for travel time: BECTU says that after long working days all travel time should be paid, while the APA argues that the first hour should be unpaid.
An attempt to resolve the dispute at ACAS in July 2001 did not result in an agreed way forward.
