June Freelances Fair
BECTU's Writers, Producers and Directors Branch have organised a Freelances Fair to be held this summer.
The aim is to provide an introduction to the freelance world for the newcomer, and advanced information for the initiated.
All aspects of freelancing will be explored, and the seminars will provide space to openly debate them.
A service to people who are employed as freelances, and to those who employ them, will be provided on the day.
The fair consists of stalls offering essential information from key players in the industry.
Advice on issues such as contracts, copyright, tax and the law at work will be available.
There will be four seminars, each with a panel of three or four speakers, and a final question and answer session to close - no set speeches, just an open discussion. Practitioners from the industry will be on to hand to give advice.
The four seminars will cover:
- First steps as a freelancer
- How to get your idea off the ground
- A runners seminar
- TV Wrap next steps?
The event will feature a range of voices not necessarily all in harmony!
The Freelances Fair is to be held at BAFTA in London on 9 June 2006 starting at 1300. The final Q&A session runs from 1900 to 2100. Afterwards there will be drinks in the bar, giving participants the opportunity to network.
