NEC election announced

The election of the BECTU NEC for 1998-2000 will take place from early March until late April.

The NEC (National Executive Committee) elections are held every two years, and nominations for candidates for this election must be made by BECTU branches before 1200 on 2 March.

The general management and administration of the union is vested with the NEC. It is responsible to BECTU's Annual Conference for the workings of the union, and the committee normally meets every six weeks.

The size of the new NEC will be 18 members, based on the size of the union as it stood at the end of December last year.

Following the deadline for the receipt of nominations in March, ballots for election will be held in those Divisions where the number of nominations is greater than the number of vacancies. These ballots will take place from 16 March to 30 April 1998.

Full details appear in BECTU Branch Circular 502/1998, which has been distributed to all union branch secretaries.
