Ballots for new NEC
NEC ballots are to be held in two Divisions following the closing date for nominations of candidates.
In BECTU's NEC (National Executive Committee) 2000-2002 elections, three of the union's six Divisions, BBC, Laboratories and Regional Production, the number of candidates nominated by Branches equalled the number of NEC places available to those divisions. The independent scrutineers for the election, Electoral Reform Services, have declared that those candidates have therefore been elected unopposed.
In a fourth Division, Independent Broadcasting, only one candidate was nominated for two NEC places available. That candidate has therefore been elected unopposed and a by-election to fill the remaining IB place will take place after the current round of elections has been completed.
Candidates elected unopposed to the NEC:
BBC Division:
- Pete Harding
- Tony Lennon
- Andy Love
- Tony Scott
- Jack McNairn
- Gino Najera
- Lynn Lloyd
- Margaret Watts
The candidates in the Arts & Entertainment Division are: Sean Barker, Turlough MacDaid, Pete Martin and Cris Woodcock; and in the London Production Division: Jack Amos, Helene Bevan, Robert Cann, Peter Cox, Mark Davies, Tudor Gates, Belinda Hale, Clive Hurst and John Sealey.
The ballots, to be administered by Electoral Reform Services, will open in the week commencing 20 March and close on Friday 28 April 2000.
The results will be embargoed until the end of BECTU's Annual Conference in Manchester, on Saturday 6 May 2000, and published to branches as soon as practicable thereafter.
The incoming NEC takes office at its meeting on 21 May 2000.
