Puttnam joins roll of honour
David Puttnam accepts BECTU honorary membership |
Puttnam accepted his award in person in front of BECTU members attending the conference in Manchester.
He was nominated for the honour by the union's leadership in recognition of his work for the film industry, and services to British and European Culture.
BECTU's General Secretary, Roger Bolton, praised Puttnam for the support he has given the union throughout his long career in film and TV.
Puttnam joins a list of distinguished industry figures and leading union members who have received the award since the 1930s, when film union ACTT was founded.
Other members who received honorary membership awards at the union's 2000 conference were retired Deputy General Secretary Roy Lockett, film member Nick Ardizzone, NTL member Sally Stoner, and film laboratories' representative Bob Caswell, who died tragically a few months before his award could be presented.
