Tony Lennon re-elected President

BECTU President Tony Lennon has been re-elected in a ballot of members.

The result of the both the President and NEC (National Executive Committee) ballots were announced at this weekend's BECTU Annual Conference.

For the first time all BECTU members have been involved in the ballot for President following a change in the union's Rules last year.

Tony Lennon attracted 2896 votes compared to fellow candidate Tudor Gates who received 2503.

There were also ballots in the London and Regional Production Divisions, along with the BBC Division, for seats on the NEC.

No elections were necessary in the Arts and Entertainment, Independent Broadcasting and Laboratories Divisions because the number of nominations did not exceed the number of NEC seats available.

Following the election the new NEC, which meets for the first time on 26 May, comprises:

  • Arts & Entertainment: Turlough MacDaid, Peter Martin, Douglas McGill
  • BBC: Pete Harding, Alastair Hendrie, Andy Love, Tony Scott
  • Independent Broadcasting: Robert Scott, [vacancy]
  • Laboratories: Gino Najera
  • London Production: Jack Amos, Nick Ardizzone, Tudor Gates, Tim Potter
  • Regional Production: Christine Bond, Lawrence Van Reiss
Branches in the Independent Broadcasting Division are to be invited to submit nominations in a by-election to fill the NEC vacancy caused by insufficient nominations earlier this year.
