Appeals nomination invitation
Branches are invited to nominate candidates for the BECTU Appeals Committee.
At the union's Annual Conference in Manchester on 18-19 May 2002, the Standing Orders Committee reported that only one nomination had been received from branches for five positions on the Appeals Committee.
That nominee, Mary Corner, was therefore elected, but there remain four vacancies on the Appeals Committee for the period leading up to the 2003 Annual Conference.
Therefore the NEC (National Executive Committee) is inviting Branches to make further nominations
Under BECTU Rule 26a the Appeals Committee is:
To facilitate the hearing of disputes between members amongst themselves, or between any member and the National Executive Committee, which cannot be dealt with by any procedure provided elsewhere in these rules, and to provide for the hearing of appeals against decisions of the Disciplinary Committee that a penalty be imposed upon a member, an Appeals Committee of five members shall be elected by the delegates at each annual conference.Nominations must be made by BECTU Branches using the form attached to Branch Circular 634/2002, and the closing date for receipt of nominations is 1200 on Friday 30 August 2002.
