2003 proposals issued

Proposals for BECTU's 2003 Conference in Eastbourne have been issued.

BECTU Branches and the NEC (National Executive Committee) have submitted proposals for this year's Annual Conference to be held in May.

Beforehand BECTU Branches have until 13 March 2003 to put forward amendments to the proposed changes.

Both these amendments and the original proposals will be subject to debate and voting at Conference by Branch delegates from across the union.

Under BECTU Rule 45(b) the NEC is proposing two changes to the Rules concerning student membership and the definition of a paid-up member.

Policy propositions submitted by Branches for this year's Conference include:

  • To research how employers seek to avoid the Working Time Regulations.
  • Concern on the impact of the Communications Bill on regional programme making.
  • A vote of members concerning continued affiliation of the Labour Party.
  • The venue for future BECTU Annual Conferences.
  • The appointment of a full time health and safety officer.
  • The use of the union's buildings.
The union's Annual Conference is being held at the Floral Hall of the Winter Gardens in Eastbourne on Saturday 17 May 2003.

BECTU Branches are reminded they must notify Head Office of their Conference delegates by Friday 4 April 2003.

On Sunday 18 May 2003 separate Conferences for the following Divisions of the union will also be taking place in Eastbourne:

  • BBC
  • Independent Broadcasting
  • Arts and Entertainment
The Laboratories, London Production and Regional Production Divisions are expected to hold their Conferences later in the year at different venues.
